ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Welcome to my Portfolio! My name is Allison Jahr and I am an educator and creative professional with a passion for inclusive learning and accessibility. I am currently completing my M.S.Ed. in Inclusive Education at Daemen University, where I am strengthening my skills in curriculum design, classroom management, and student-centered practice. I have a particular interest in how EdTech tools, including Assistive Technology (AT) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), can make learning more engaging and equitable for all students. I also believe there is still a time and a place for computer-free learning, striking a balance between tech integration and the tangible through the use of manipulatives, station work, and more.

Before pursuing education, I spent over a decade as a successful salon owner and entrepreneur. These experiences have shaped my communication skills, creativity, and adaptability. My transition from entrepreneurship to teaching reflects my commitment to lifelong learning and the importance of community. In the classroom, I place focus on building authentic relationships, inviting collaboration and shared learning experiences, and ensuring that every student’s voice is heard.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy design, writing, art-making, singing, and life as a proud new mother, always balancing professional growth with creativity and family.

My creative roots run deep. I attended Unionville High School’s Arts York program, where I majored in Vocal Music, and have taught dance for several years. These experiences shaped my belief that learning is most powerful when it engages both the heart and imagination. Today, that creative foundation continues to inform how I design inclusive, arts-infused, and expressive learning experiences for students.

CREATIVE FOUNDATIONS

My path to teaching began in the world of entrepreneurship, where I developed skills in leadership, communication, and design; skills that continue to shape my work as an educator. These experiences have deepened my belief that meaningful learning comes from creativity, collaboration, and authentic engagement.

PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

This is a picture I drew during one of the pandemic lockdowns, during a time of salon closure. Although this is not a perfect rendering of the “Twiggy” image, it is an example of my belief that improvement is a result of time, effort and persistence. Beyond the subjects we teach, the art of curiosity and perseverance are skills that can be practiced and help shape our students into lifelong learners. Having shifted direction at various points in my life and career, I believe these qualities are what allow us to adapt, grow, and rediscover our strengths in new contexts.
